Frequently Asked Questions...
Q: Is this dog barrier difficult to install?
A: No special skill is needed. Installation is straightforward and easy. The only tool you'll need is something to cut the wire.
Q: Is it safe around children?
A: It is safe for dogs and people. If you touch the wire you feel nothing because it is insulated. In fact the wire can be buried.
Q: Must the wire be buried?
A: No, burying is optional. Placing the wire at the base of the existing fence, or attaching it a small way up, is the usual method. If you want to bury the wire, the depth can be anywhere between 5cm and 50cm.
Q: Is the system suitable for my situation?
A: Every situation is different. Click Here to go to "Help - Can you suggest a kit for my situation?" Read the comments that fit your situation.
Q: Why can't the dog run through the barrier?
A: Doggy psychology! Your dog won't realize that this is possible.
Follow the two-day training procedure to produce a back-off response in your dog. Then let your dog learn about the correction. Your dog will be surprised and automatically retreat. After this experience, your dog will be apprehensive about going anywhere near the boundary. Most dogs never run through.
However, should your dog run through, then the collar will automatically increase the level of the correction until the right behaviour is attained.
Q: Do you have collars with rechargeable batteries?
A: No. Rechargeable batteries have some serious disadvantages. They are much heavier and bulkier. The Sureguard collar uses an advanced high energy lithium battery to keep weight & size down and therefore make the collar a more comfortable fit for your dog.
Most collars that use rechargeable batteries are completely sealed. When the batteries fail, the complete collar has to be discarded.
Q: I have an escape artist. If my dog is persistant at breaking out, can the level of correction be increased?
A: Sureguard's collars have 12 levels of correction that automatically adjust within each collar according to your dog's behaviour. Each dog will receive just the correction necessary to achieve reliable results. Some other leading brands have manual adjustments but ALL dog's get the same higher level, not individually.
Q: What is the running cost for the Sureguard collar?
A: Batteries for the Sureguard collar are available in a pack of five for only $14. The collar takes a single battery which lasts up to 2 month.
Q: Once my dog is controlled can I remove the barrier?
A: No. Your dog is responding to the warning sound emitted by the collar. Your dog will back-off when it hears this sound. The collar activates because of the signal emitted from the boundary wire.
Q: Is it just a warning sound that controls my dog?
A: The collar will emit a warning sound when it activates near the boundary wire. This warning sound tells your dog to back-off or else receive a correction. So, generally, it is the warning sound that controls your dog. If your dog doesn't respond properly then it is corrected.
