Frequently Asked Questions...

Q: Is this dog barrier difficult to install?

A: No special skill is needed. Installation is straightforward and easy. The only tool you'll need is something to cut the wire and possibly a hammer.

Q: Is it safe around children?

A: It is safe for dogs and people. If you touch the wire while wearing shoes then you'll feel little or nothing. However, your dog receives an unpleasant sensation because of being in contact with the ground.

Q: Is the system suitable for my situation?

A: Every situation is different. Go back to the menu and select "FAQ - Can you suggest a kit for my situation?" Read our comments that fit your situation.

Q: You say to set the wire to the dog's nose height but I have a small dog and a large dog. What height should I set the wire?

A: Firstly, set the wire height for the taller dog. Give your taller dog a few days to encounter the wire and learn to stay clear of it. During this time the smaller dog might still have access under the wire. Then lower the wire to the next lowest size dog and let this dog learn about the wire. You'll be pleasantly surprised at the results. Your dogs won't go anywhere near the wire.

Q: Why can't the dog jump the wire?

A: Doggy psychology! Your dog won't realize that this is possible.

The single wire does not look much of a barrier. All dogs initially learn about the wire by going under it. They experience the correction and retreat. Your dog will feel apprehensive about going anywhere near the wire. Hence, it won't attempt to jump it.

Conversely, if you initially installed several wires, it looks like a physical barrier and your dog's first response will be to jump it! So, always start with a single wire. Q: Once my dog is controlled can I remove the barrier?

A: No. When your dog sees the wire, it remembers what can happen and therefore stays away from the wire. We do not recommend switching the energizer off because your dog may test the wire in future. Your dog must always receive a correction when touching the wire.
