Dog Fence Kit Selection Guide

Column "R" is the Radio Collar Dog Fence.
Column "P" is the Pingg-String Dog Fence.

Containment Situation	R	P
Boundary less than 100m.	Your containment area may be too small. If your dog's living areas are within 2~3m of the boundary wire then the collar will activate in these areas too. To avoid this you can set the collar to activate at 1m. However, this is only suitable for use around garden beds or where your dog is digging at the fence but can't climb out.	Okay. Usually the best choice.
Boundary more than 150m.	Okay. Usually the best choice.	Above 150m the Radio Collar system becomes more economical and is relatively quicker to install.
Boundary has an open driveway.	Ideal for this situation.	The above ground wire is unsuited to open driveways because the above ground wire obstructs vehicle access.
Boundary has a closable gate.	No problem. The boundary wire can be placed on the ground or underground. The Radio Collar will stop your dog even if the gate is left open.	The above ground wire might limit access through the gate. In some situations the wire can be fixed to the gate and will move with the gate. Your dog cannot climb over the gate. However, if the gate is left open your dog won't be restrained.
Boundary is irregular.	You can place the boundary wire in any closed boundary shape. Your dog stays within this boundary. Both ends of the boundary wire must return to the transmitter device.	You can place the boundary wire in any shape and the shape can be open. You can start at one point and finish anywhere. You can have multiple branches. When considering kit sizes, the lengths are based on straight sections. If the boundary has many curves you'll need to order either the next longest kit or buy an extension kit.
Boundary very small. Eg. city dwellings.	Generally not suitable. See Comments under "boundaries less than 100m".	Ideal choice. Use the "Fence Barrier" type kits if space is very limited. These attach onto the fence. "Ground Barrier" kits may also be used.
Can the boundary be precisely defined?	The Radio collar can be set to any distance from 1m to over 6m. Once set, the point at which the Radio Collar activates can vary ±20% depending on circumstances. This does not alter the effectiveness of the system. We simply mention this fact in case you are expecting a precise line on the ground. All radio collar systems work similarly.	Boundary is defined precisely at the Pingg-String wire.
Can I create an opening in the boundary?	Yes, but the boundary wire must be a continuous circuit. The Sureguard Radio Collar is unique in detecting signal at ground level. By raising the wire above your dog you can create an opening in the boundary. For example, if you run the wire next to the house and want to eliminate the signal you could run the wire in roof gutter.	Yes. Just install the Pingg-String wire only where you need it.
Does the boundary need an existing fence to work?	No, it can work with or without a fence.	No, it can work with or without a fence.
Is the boundary visible?	The boundary wire is yellow and visible if left on the ground. It may be buried to make the system invisible.	The Pingg-String hardware is designed to blend into the surrounds. Support posts are black. Wire is silver. Close up you can see the barrier but looking across the garden you won't notice it.
Can it control any number of dogs?	Yes. You must buy a collar for each additional dog. One collar is included in the starter kit.	Yes. The Pingg-String does not use collars. The user manual explains handling different sized dogs.
Can it stop other people's dogs entering my property?	No. Only dogs wearing the radio collar are controlled.	Yes. Ideal for this situation.
Can it handle dogs with thick fur?	Yes. The Sureguard Radio Collar is better than most brands at penetrating fur. In addition, it incorporates a patented mechanism to sense whether your dog felt the correction. If the correction is applied but doesn't penetrate the fur then the collar retries up to four more times. Then, if this still fails, the collar will report to you that adjustments are required.	The wire is adjusted to nose height. Most dogs have minimal fur covering on the snout. This is generally where your dog touches the wire.
What is recommended to protect garden beds?	Okay. May need some trial-and-error adjustments to get the activation distance right. Wire may need to be placed inside the garden bed so that the entire bed is protected.	Okay. Ideal for this situation. Place wire at the border of the beds. Moreover, several beds can easily be linked together.
Will it deter my dog climbing a fence?	Yes. Minimum 2m no-go area is essential.	Yes.

Will it deter my dog digging at the base of a fence?	Yes.	Yes.
Will it work on an aggressive dog?	We do not recommended electronic containment for dangerous dogs. You should consider a secure physical restraint for a dangerous dog. Will it work for stubborn dogs?	Sureguard Radio Collars have 12 levels of correction that automatically adjust to your dog's behaviour. Moreover, the collar employs the superior low impedance output. If your dog has never been on a collar system before then you should get excellent results. However, if you have failed with other brands of collar devices you'll probably find that the Sureguard collar will perform better. The Pingg-String may be a better choice with really stubborn dogs.	Stronger than Radio Collars. More difficult for dogs to tolerate the correction and therefore they more readily respect the boundary.
Is it quick to install?	Yes. Walk the boundary while un-spooling the wire. Connect both ends to the transmitter. Switch transmitter on. Set each receiver's activation distance. Train each dog - 5 sessions of 10min each day two consecutive days. Switch the receiver to containment mode. Dog is now contained. (Burying the wire is optional).	Yes. Walk the boundary with bundle of fibreglass posts. Push into the soil at recommended distances. Attach the wire holders at your dog's nose height. Attach the wire. Connect to the Pingg-String energizer. Switch energizer on. Your dog learns about the wire without your intervention. Dog is now contained.
Is it suited to all sized dogs?	Yes. Sureguard make one sized collar which comfortably fits both small and large dogs. The collar will control all breeds and sizes. The correction will automatically adjust according to your dog's behaviour.	Yes. Set the Pingg-Wire for your tallest dog. Allow some time for this dog to learn about the wire. Then lower the wire to the next sized dog. Continue for each of your smaller dogs.
